Agile IT Project Management at a Mining Industry Giant

With the strategic allocation of a Product Owner from GX2, the client successfully organized its backlog, implemented agile methods, and launched a global occupational health and safety solution, now operating in nearly 100 plants worldwide.

About the client

The mining company is a global leader in stainless steel, electrical, and specialty steels, headquartered in Minas Gerais, Brazil. With numerous plants around the world and over 9,000 employees, the company has been expanding its operations globally. This expansion has brought a pressing need to strengthen its technology sector.

As part of this transformation, the company adopted a Brazilian occupational health and safety system, initially a prototype, which evolved into an officially recognized solution widely used to ensure worker health and safety and to achieve the goal of zero accidents.

The Challenge

With global expansion came significant challenges, especially in collaboration between international teams. The need to organize the backlog and improve communication between the French and Brazilian teams became critical. The project, which had been ongoing for a year, required more efficient organization and the introduction of agile methodologies.

Solution and Results

GX2 allocated an experienced Product Owner to assist the mining company on multiple fronts. Her contribution was vital in implementing agile methodologies, organizing the backlog, and launching the global health and safety system in 2024.

The professional has shown excellent results, supporting other areas and helping facilitate international meetings. She continues to grow, especially as she gains more understanding of the processes and the company. We feel that she is increasingly taking ownership of the product.

One of the main challenges was overcoming language barriers, which were addressed through improved English translations. Today, the system operates efficiently in English across more than 100 plants worldwide.

The introduction of a tool to manage safety anomalies enabled more effective management of safety data and metrics, positively influencing market assessments. Furthermore, the allocated professional is now leading a new ESG project, integrating human rights into the system, demonstrating the ongoing impact of her role.
